Netflix presents a wide variety of programmes but sometimes it can be overwhelming for new viewers. To make your life easier, I selected three shows that you’ll hopefully enjoy watching.
Gossip Girl

Most of you might have heard of this show before, but if you didn’t here’s a brief intro. This show is about a group of friends from New York who go to the same private high school and share love interests, secrets and coming-of-age problems. They all try to live their lives while an anonymous person, aka Gossip Girl, watches them and reveals all the scoops about them to the world.
I like this show because it explores the various issues teenagers have with friends, boyfriends/girlfriends, and family as you can relate to them and understand the difficulties young people face during adolescence. At the same time, the show focuses on this small elite group of individuals who are part of rich and established families in one on the biggest cities of the world. So the show presents a relatable human side to it, especially when you watch it during your teenage years (like I did), while distancing itself from normal people’s lives as most of us never grew in mansions/penthouses or had the financial freedom that the characters have.
Plus, it has a cast of famous actors like Blake Lively (known for her other parts in The Shallows, A Simple Favour, Café Society) and Ed Westwick (known for his other parts in White Gold, Chalet Girl). The series has six seasons with episodes lasting around 45 min each, so if you want something to watch for the long hall this is the perfect series for you!
Dirty Money

I like to vary between genres of programmes so I don’t get bored easily. Sometimes I prefer watching something from which I can learn something and when I’m in this mood I choose documentaries, like Dirty Money. I really enjoy this series as every episode tells the story of a different worldwide scandal that involved using/making money illegally (hence the title). Its 1-hour episodes focus on different industries like banks, car manufacturers, or people like politicians.
I didn’t know many of these corruption scandals even happened but the way in which the series explains each infamous event is simple and easy to understand. Plus, the documentary includes interviews from people who witnessed the scandals in first person, because they either worked for the company/person or investigated them.
The perspective of both the accuser and accused gives the episodes an impartial point of view which leaves the ones watching to form their own opinion about who’s guilty. I find this aspect to be really important especially when presenting a crime because audiences can hear both sides of the story without being influenced by someone else’s opinion; it leaves room for discussion and for everyone to see the crime differently.
Money Heist

I first started watching this series because one of my closest friends suggested it. I studied Spanish so I like watching it with the original voices (also because I prefer hearing the original voices rather than voice-overs) with English subtitles. The series has four seasons, the latest was released at the beginning of April, and it has become a worldwide success.
The Spanish programme tells the story of a group of people who plan on robbing a bank and getting away with it. The whole plan has been created in detail by El Profesor (Spanish for The Professor) who has spent years to make sure that he has a solution to every possible unexpected situation during this heist.
The series is full of tension as the main characters are trapped in the same space for weeks, have to keep an eye on the hostages and can’t make a mistake otherwise they’ll go to prison. Plus, the characters develop love interests and throughout the episodes more is revealed about the background of each one. This helps the audience to relate to them and possibly sympathise with them.
