Why is exploring the world so important to me?

I can’t believe that nowadays we’re so lucky to have the opportunity to go wherever we want whenever we feel like it. Planes, train, cars, buses, undergrounds, bikes can take us anywhere and I feel fortunate to live in an era where travelling is so common. I don’t think I could live in the 19th century where forms of transportation depended on poor materials as well as on animals. It’s fascinating how so much changed and how in one day we can go from our home to the opposite side of the world.

If I wasn’t financially restricted, I think I would always travel to some new place in the world. I would visit every country until I’m too old to do that, so I can see every side of our globe and not regret I didn’t take the opportunity. One of my goals on my bucket list is, in fact, visit the capital of every country in the world. I don’t think that I will achieve it, but I’d be happy if I just try my best to travel as much as I can when having the possibility.

To be fair, I’ve already visited quite a few places with my family during my summer holidays. I’m glad they’re interested in travelling and seeing new places as much as I am. I couldn’t bear if they wouldn’t let me take a plane to fly out of the country and just restrain me to the place where we actually live. I might write up posts about the most interesting places I’ve been with them, so you can see places from my perspective and perhaps be interested in travelling there and visit them yourselves.

My favourite places to go to during the summer are sunny beaches. I don’t particularly like going to the mountains or other cold places because I prefer hot temperatures and I don’t like winter itself. It’s always cold, people get sick, days are shorter and the weather is pretty much depressing. While in summer, there’s mostly sun, days are longer, nights are adventurous, people are happier. I guess summer, for me, it’s just a carefree time of the year and for this I prefer it rather than the other seasons. Furthermore, during summer I get the opportunity to travel around the world so that’s perhaps another factor which makes me appreciate this time of the year even more.

On the other hand, if I had the opportunity to travel during colder times of the year, I would rather visit the biggest cities in the world. During hotter days I don’t get the opportunity to do that because the high temperature makes it impossible to enjoy strolling around cities without excessively sweating or stopping every 5 minutes in a shop or café with air conditioning on. Additionally, during summer there are usually more people visiting the metropolises, so most places are excessively crowded and you can’t really enjoy your stay. During those colder times, I would buy a hot beverage, walk around the most famous and iconic parks, streets or squares, look at the most emblematic shops’ windows and perhaps visit their museums. I’m not a huge fan of this last attraction myself, but I think that choosing to not see the most important pieces of art of the world when you have the opportunity, is like avoiding a chance to make you more culturally aware of your surroundings.

In both cases of travelling, during the summer or winter, one thing that I couldn’t miss out when visiting new places is trying their typical food. I like trying new dishes that I’ve never heard of before and I am not afraid of disliking them either. I prefer trying and know that I don’t like them, rather than having the doubt whether I would have liked it or not. However, I feel that this depends on your personality because I know that for some people stepping out of their comfort zone is really challenging and they just prefer relying on the stuff they’re certain about. For me, going to a new country and not trying some of their food is like not fully immersing yourself in their tradition and I like to be open-minded to new experiences in different cultures.

I hope I get the opportunity to visit as many places as I can in my lifetime with the people I love the most and make many memories there so that when I look back I can be proud of using my time, and money, to know more about the world.

Thanks for taking time out of your day to read my work. I really appreciate it!!!
